I got a ticket for out of date registration sticker, need a little advice?

so i got a ticket for the sticker, which i had no idea about (new driver, i guess the dealer put it on the plates) what i want to know is can i fight this? I was supposed to recieve a letter in the mail letting me know that it was supposed to expire a couple months before my birthday, and in fact on there webpage it reads,

';For your convenience, a licence plate renewal application WILL BE mailed to you approximately 60 to 90 days prior to the plate expiry (usually on your birthdate).';

i know in the U.S. they are not required to but in Canada (where i live) they are, is it possible to point this out and have my ticket dropped?I got a ticket for out of date registration sticker, need a little advice?
It's definately worth fighting. i live in toronto so i know what yur talkin about, you have nothing to lose by fighting it. and since yur a new driver you have that going for you....if you can prove that it was always insured then you should be ok. When people don't have valtags updated the police are under the suspicion that there isn't valid up to date insurance.I got a ticket for out of date registration sticker, need a little advice?
You can try to bring that up as a defense, however the court will be very quick to point out to you that it is YOUR responsibility to maintain the registration of your vehicle, so you will be found guilty, and have to pay the fine, and possibly a point or two on your license.

Sorry to inform you that the court system has no tolerance for ';failure to know';.
If there is a decal on your plate, and you have a registration document stating the expiration date, it is your responsibility to make sure your registration is current. You are the car owner, it is your responsibility, not the dealer's.

Mail gets lost all the time, its not a guarantee you will be notified.

I doubt you have a defense as a judge will simply ask, ';do you know how to read?';. When you answer, ';yes, your honor, I can read';, he will say, ';guilty, as charged';. Then you will go to prison for ever and ever and ever.

Just pay it and get it over with.

Don't feel bad, I got a ticket just yesterday for expired registration. Turns out my plates had been suspended, too. I could have had my car impounded but the cop cut me a break and I got it taken care of. Cost me $210 + whatever the ticket will be.... lesson learned.
